Masterpiece - week 5 - I am Strong

September 17, 2017 Speaker: Bruce Humphrey Series: Masterpiece

Passage: Ephesians 6:11–6:18

For we are God’s masterpiece…”
2:10 NLT

Evil is present in our world.

I wonder you should ask me whether it is essential to keep the patient in ignorance of your own existence…Our policy, for the moment, is to conceal ourselves… I do not think you will have much difficulty in keeping the patient in the dark.

The fact that ‘devils’ are predominantly comic figures in the modern imagination will help you. If any faith suspicion of your existence begins to arise in his mind, suggest to him a picture of something in red tights, and persuade him that since he cannot believe in that…he therefore cannot believe in you.” –C.S. Lewis, The Screwtape Letters

“What is life but a great battle, lasting from our earliest days until we sheath sword in death.”  -C.H. Spurgeon

“Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power.” Ephesians 6:10

Mistake #1:
We Fight in Our Own Power

Mistake #2:

We Fight the Wrong Enemy

“Put on the full armor of God so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.”
Ephesians 6:11, 12

Mistake #3:

We Fight with the Wrong Tactics

“Put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground.”   Verse 13

“Do not repay anyone evil for evil. Be careful to do what is right in the eyes of everybody. If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone. Do not take revenge, my friends, but have room for God’s wrath, for it is written: “It is mine to avenge; I will repay,” says the Lord…. Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.”

  Romans 12:17-19, 21

“And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people.”
    Ephesians 6:18
